Power of the Rocker
The bottom of your surfboard has one important feature – it is not flat but it has a curve. The curvature from one end to another is necessary to repeat the shapes of the waves while riding when the face is in the water.
This curvature in a professional vocabulary is called a rocker.
The rocker may be different in shape but without it, you can’t go riding normally because your surfboard nose will probably be buried in the water and the swell will not break as it is expected.
The rockers of different sizes influence the surfer’s turns while riding. Smaller surfboards and shortboards, for instance, have a larger rocker and this affects the way they can change directions during riding.
These surfboards are good at riding unpredictable waves that are tough and shallow.
Low-rocker boards are generally long. That’s why they are comfortable to use while riding sluggish and slurred swells instead of tough and shallow ones.
The surface of these surfboards is more above the water than, for example, of shortboards or smaller surfboards. The equipment with a low rocker is good at speeding, increasing the paddling power and adding to stability while riding.
The surfboards with a larger feature are difficult to be used for gaining speed in the process of riding.
The rocker in the front
Sometimes, surfboards have the curve in the nose part of the item.
It is called a nose rocker. It is intended to make the surfer avoid facing the steep waves during their riding.
When the board falls into the wave, the rocker located in the nose part will let you stay on the water instead of digging into it.
The rocker at the back
This feature at the back of the surfboard is intended to control the board while riding. It lets the surfer turn easier in some crucial moments.
It also allows you not to fall in when you are going into the wave because it doesn’t make the nose go down and dig deeper into the water in comparison with some other type of balance.
A larger rocker at the back of the surfboard will surely provide you with the thorough control of your actions and their results.
The board will definitely be driven better. The smaller balance feature in this place will let you gain more speed and paddle efficiently.
