Great tips on eliminating annoying surfboard’s rail bend by yourself

In this kind of sports everyone will have bending and hollows in their surfboards. It can never be prevented.

In case, the bends are not serious, you can eliminate them at your place.

It makes no sense to bring your surfboard with a tiny rail bend to a professional. You’ll only waste your time and your wallet’ll get smaller.

In  article, we are guiding you through the process of eliminating a surfboard’s rail bend. Shall we begin?

Authentic Rail Bend

Required Equipment:

  • A set containing the things listed further down or almost all of these rails.
  • Abrasive sheet – three kinds: rough, middle-level rough and foamed piece (rough to the smallest extent).
  • Solar drying resin – polyepoxides or non-glue types. You’d better drop into your surfboard store to find out the type that is required for your surfboard.
  • A device that will help you put the resin onto the surface. Special-purpose sets normally have a device made of wood. Otherwise, you can take some stick!
  • Pure plastic. It can normally be found in the sets, too. Otherwise, you can use pieces of the paper folders to do the job.

You’ll also need much of the sun!

Follow next steps for eliminating:

  • Grind the rail bend. Begin with the middle-level rough abrasive paper, slightly polish the bend so that there are no uneven corners anymore. Make it polished so that it looks good. Then use the foam piece abrasive sheet to get a more polished result. I prefer such things, particularly when working on the rails as it is possible to put it, and it will be around the rail. This way, it’ll make the form better and help with eliminating.
  • Put the resin. You should put enough volume of resin onto the rail bend with a wooden applier. It will become solid under the sun. The list of things you can replace the resin with is still quite big. You can find polyepoxides or non-glue types of the resin. Ask the seller on what will meet your needs.
  • This will be determined by the kind of surfboard you have. There are kinds that will be compatible and that will not. Put the resin profusely until the bend is fully covered so that you will not have to repeat this procedure.
  • Level the resin. Take a pure plastic piece (you’ll normally find it in a surfboard bend set). By means of the thing you can apply it on one level closely to the rail thing, keep it on the rear part or it’ll help you level the resin. When you level the resin, it eases the process of polishing. Moreover, it’ll get a more attractive appearance and help with eliminating.

Resin Put

Let the surfboard get solar rays. The layer will become solid. Keep the plastic piece opposed to the rail during this time.

The solar rays make different effect in the course of the day. The layer will get dry faster at noon and help with eliminating.

It will take more time when doing this job at the beginning of the day, in the afternoon or when the sky is overcast.

Similarly, with a thicker layer of resin, you may spend more time until it becomes solid.

You can check if the layer is getting more solid by removing the plastic piece. If yes, you’ll clearly understand it is getting off evenly and in a good way.

It is recommended letting it be under the sun for more time to be on the safe side as you cannot know what it is like inside the solidified layer.

So, take your time with this, particularly if you have a greater rail thing on surfboard with a big amount of resin applied.

polish of surfboard

Polish it up.

Begin with a rougher abrasive sheet and then switch to a thinner abrasive sheet; polish the solidified layer that had been put onto the surface before.

Stop when it gets absolutely polished and no bend is noticeable. No ribs should be felt anywhere on the piece that had been put before.

As you make sure everything is great and polished, take the foamed, soft and thin abrasive piece, put it around the rail and go over it once again so that it is more polished.

It is like this, fine and polished. The bend is not perceived, eliminated now and will not be so when you surf.

This is your guide on eliminating your surfboard’s small bending.

Good luck with eliminating it, now you can go ahead and do this without the help of the professionals. You are not losing your budget or time for eliminating!
